Commiserations to our U17 footballers who lost out to Ennistymon in last Sunday’s semi final, plenty of positives to take from the year and not a lot of time to dwell on it with the team having been in action again on Tuesday evening in Caherlohan. Well done on getting over the line in a high scoring game. The team now turn to a quarter final clash away to Clooney on Sunday at 10.15am. Wishing you the very best of luck.
All quiet on the adult front until Sunday when our junior camogie and hurling teams are out in quarter final action. Junior C camogie head to Feakle for a 10.30 throw in v Feakle/Killanena and Junior C hurlers take on Ballyea at 1pm in Clareabbey.
The very best of luck to all teams, your support as always is much appreciated.
The excitement is building in town and the flags and bunting are flying high, keep it going! The bunting WhatsApp group was revived and the lads reunited this evening to get the colours out at the club grounds, a big thanks to them, they will be continuing in town on Monday evening, if anyone would like to give a hand you can get in touch by replying to this email.
Clare GAA plan on hosting an ‘Up for the Final’ event next Thursday evening, more on this and the final next week. For now, keep the flags flying, and be sure to tag the club if you are posting pictures on social media.
Academy
It's been another action-packed week for our Academy teams, with plenty of excitement, some fantastic performances, a little heartbreak and, most importantly, great determination and commitment from our young Townies.
We begin by commiserating with our Minor footballers, who bowed out of the championship following a tough defeat to Ennistymon last weekend. Unfortunately, conceding goals just before half-time left the lads with a mountain to climb. However, to their credit, they never gave up and battled right to the final whistle. While there was no silverware to show for their efforts this year, the progress and development of this group of young players has been clear for all to see. They can be extremely proud of their campaign, and we have no doubt that some of these lads will be pulling on the Éire Óg senior jersey in the years ahead. Well done to all the players and management for their commitment throughout the season.
There was little time for the Minors to dwell on disappointment, however, as they were back in action on Tuesday evening, this time in hurling, taking on Ballyea in a playoff under lights. Having been well beaten by Ballyea earlier in the championship, this was always going to be a real test of how far this team had progressed. And what a response they produced! To a man, the lads stood up to the challenge, showing tremendous character, skill and determination in an extremely entertaining encounter. When the final whistle sounded, it was the Townies who emerged victorious by two points. A fantastic result and a huge credit to the players and management.
Following some debate during the week regarding the scheduling of the quarter-final, the game is now fixed for Sunday morning at 10.30am in Clooney against Clooney-Quin. This promises to be another massive challenge against a very strong and highly fancied Clooney-Quin side. We would love to see a big Townie turnout to get behind the lads and give them the support they deserve. Best of luck to everyone involved!
Our U14 footballers also experienced disappointment on Tuesday evening, losing their playoff against Doora-Barefield. However, their season is far from over, as they now turn their attention to a Shield semi-final against Lissycasey on Sunday. The lads have put in a huge effort throughout the year, and we wish them and their management the very best of luck as they look to finish their campaign on a high.
Before that, our U14 Academy team will welcome Wolfe Tones to Éire Óg on Saturday morning, with throw-in at 10.30am. Best of luck to the boys, and hopefully we will have plenty of support on the sidelines.
There was also fantastic excitement on Thursday evening as our U14 Academy hurling team took on Corofin-Ruan in an Academy final. In a thrilling contest, the Townies found themselves two points down with just seconds remaining on the clock. But these lads clearly hadn't read the script! Showing incredible determination and refusing to accept defeat, they managed to score a late free to snatch victory by a single point. What a finish and what a team performance! It was a brilliant reminder of the importance of never giving up, playing to the final whistle and believing in your teammates. Huge congratulations to the boys and their management on a fantastic achievement. Our U12s continue to enjoy their Go Games, getting valuable game time and opportunities to develop their skills in a fun and positive environment. At this age, it's all about learning, improving, building friendships and enjoying our games, and it's great to see the enthusiasm these young players bring every week.
Academy Training Update A reminder to all parents and players that next week will be our final week of Academy training for this season, after which we will be taking a well-earned break for a few weeks. Training continues on Monday and Friday evenings from 6pm to 7pm. It's been a fantastic season, and we hope to see everyone making the most of the final sessions. We know the children will miss their weekly training, although we suspect a few of our coaches might be looking forward to putting their feet up for a little while! As we approach the closing stages of the various championships, we want to wish all our teams and management groups the very best of luck. There is still plenty to play for, and every one of these young players deserves our encouragement and support. Finally, a huge thank you to all our volunteer coaches, parents, families and supporters who continue to make our Academy such a special part of Éire Óg. The hours given to training, matches, travelling and organising activities often go unseen, but they make an enormous difference to our young players. Without our volunteers, none of this would be possible.
We encourage everyone to get out and support our teams over the coming days. As always, please do so in a positive and respectful manner, encouraging all players while showing respect to opposition teams, coaches and match officials. Our young players learn as much from what happens on the sidelines as they do on the pitch, so let's continue to set the right example.
Best of luck to all our young Townies this weekend. Keep working hard, keep enjoying your games and keep making us proud! Up the Townies! 🔴⚪
