A weekend of quarter and semi finals in store, we look forward to seeing as many as possible on the sidelines supporting our teams. Come on the Townies.

A huge congrats to our junior A hurlers who fought off a stiff test from Clarecastle to reach the 2022 Junior A hurling County Final v Doora Barefield. The game takes place next Saturday, October 8th in Tulla, time to be confirmed. Be sure to tune into club website/social media to keep up to date on the build up to the game, starting here: Eire Óg Inis | Build up to the forthcoming Clare Junior A Hurling Championship Final on Saturday, Oct 8th (eireoginis.ie)

Congratulations also to our senior hurlers on reaching this years SHC semi final following a 2.21 to 16 point win over Inagh-Kilnamona at the weekend. As we are all aware, Jason McCarthy of Inagh-Kilnamona suffered a nasty ankle injury early in the second half, as a club we wish Jason a thorough and swift recovery.

Our opponents for the semi are Sixmilebridge and the game is to be played Sunday 9th Oct in Cusack Park.

Dermot Earley Youth Leadership Programme….Volunteers needed!!
The Dermot Earley Youth Leadership Initiative is a partnership between the GAA, Foróige, NUI Galway and the Dermot Earley family which aims to enable young people to enhance their leadership skills and qualities and challenges them to use these skills both on and off the pitch for the betterment of society. The programme aims to empower young people to make a positive difference to their society through the practice of effective leadership. It is based on the values and leadership qualities demonstrated by the late Dermot Earley Senior, one of the GAA’s and Ireland’s greatest leaders. The programme will run approximately from late October to May. The Dermot Earley Youth Leadership Initiative has been accredited by the National University of Ireland, Galway, as a Foundation Certificate in Youth Leadership and Community Action.

We are the first GAA club in County Clare to take on this exciting programme. However, we need a few more volunteers to help run this initiative. The programme will be facilitated by trained Eire Óg volunteers and the programme will be held locally. Already four members of the club have become trained facilitators.  Training for the DEYL Initiative will take place online on Friday 7th October (6.30pm - 9.30pm) Saturday 8th October (10am - 4pm)

Reeling in the Years
Éire Óg CLG is 70 years young this year and to celebrate this significant birthday we will be holding a get-together on Friday, October 21st in honour of former players, officers, team managers and all those who have contributed to making the club what it is today.

As part of the evening, we hope to take a pictorial trip down memory lane, featuring teams, players, characters and events from other years, which hopefully will reassure those present of their place in the annals of the club. We are particularly keen to show footage of matches from the past, or indeed any relevant video, Super 8 or other film material that may be lying around in attics, boxes or wherever.

If anybody is aware of such material we would love to hear from them, so that it could be converted to digital format and shown on the night. Rest assured that the original material will be minded and returned to you in its original form. Contact Jimmy Cooney (087 6820572) if you can help.

Academy
Our Minor A Hurlers exited the championship on Saturday following a semi-final defeat to a very strong Clooney-Quin side. The panel performed extremely well this year reaching the semi-finals of a very competitive division. Thanks to David, Danny, Cathal, Paddy & Ultan for their work with the lads since the beginning of the year.

This Saturday we host Cooraclare at 11am in the quarter finals of the minor B football championship. Wishing the lads and their mentors the best.

Our U14 footballers qualified for the Div. 1 final with a good win over Ennistymon on Saturday. Doora-Barefield will be their opponents on either Saturday or Sunday 8th or 9th October.

A nice road trip coming up this Saturday for approximately 30 of our 2011/12 born boys who have been invited to take part in a football and hurling tournament at Bishopstown GAA in Cork City. Safe travels to all making the trip.

It was lovely to see so many 2014 born players take centre stage during last Sunday's SHC tie with Inagh-Kilnamona. The kids got to play a short hurling game at half-time which provided the attendance with fabulous entertainment. This Sunday it is the turn of the footballers who play at half-time during the senior quarter final with Clondegad.

U10 hurling match v Inagh-Kilnamona this Sunday morning in Eire Og at 11.15am.

Ladies football
Hard luck to our intermediate ladies team who lost out on a spot in the final after a 2.04 to 4.05 loss to Fergus Rovers in the semi last Sunday. Thanks to the girls for the efforts given all year and to the management team, Shane Daniels, Alan Malone, Brian Fitzpatrick with the assistance of Rory Hickey.
