Clare Sports Partnership – Season of Respect press release
Season of Respect Campaign Successfully Gaining Traction: 13 Clubs in County Clare Complete Level 1 Training, and 1 Completes Level 2 Training
The Season of Respect campaign, an innovative initiative aimed at transforming the culture of abuse towards referees and officials in County Clare, has reached a significant milestone with 12 clubs successfully completing Level 1 training. These clubs include Ballyvaughan / Fanore GAA Club, Inagh / Kilnamona Camogie Club, Corofin Camogie & GAA Club’s, Bunratty FC, Clare Comets BC, Ruan Camogie Club, Hermitage FC, St. Pats FC, Lifford AFC, Kilmaley Camogie Club, Fern Celtic, and Mountshannon FC. Furthermore, Éire Óg GAA Club has achieved the highest award of Level 2 status.
The Season of Respect Campaign, led by the Clare Local Sports Partnership, aims to foster a positive and supportive environment for referees and officials by promoting respect and fair play within sporting communities. By addressing the issue of abuse and fostering a culture of respect, the campaign seeks to ensure the continued participation and enjoyment of sports across County Clare.
John Sweeney, Coordinator of the Clare Local Sports Partnership, expressed his delight with the overwhelming response received for the initiative. He stated, "We are delighted that there has been such a positive response to this initiative in County Clare. As we can see from the variety of clubs that have achieved their awards tonight, there is a real willingness from these clubs to step forward and to change the culture of how sports clubs interact with the referee or officials. They fully understand that if there is no respect, there will be no officials, and this will lead to no games."
The Level 1 training provided clubs with valuable insights and strategies for enhancing the relationship between players, coaches parents and referees. Through interactive workshops and educational materials, participants gained a deeper understanding of the vital role that officials play in the sporting ecosystem and the impact that respectful conduct can have on their enjoyment and performance.
In addition to the Level 1 achievements, Éire Óg GAA Club has set an exemplary standard by attaining Level 2 status. This accomplishment reflects the club's commitment to creating a supportive environment for referees and officials, thereby setting a positive example for other clubs to follow.
The Season of Respect Campaign aims to continue its efforts in driving positive change throughout County Clare. By fostering an environment of respect, the
campaign seeks to ensure that officials are treated fairly and are able to carry out their roles with confidence and enjoyment.
